The monthly show, which takes place at Freedom Park in Lagos, took a break in January, after hosting a festival last December. The festival featured such acts as Keziah JonesTomi ThomasTerry Apala, Adunni Nefretiti, Falana, and fuji men Saheed Osupa and Kollington Ayinla.
Ahead of Friday night's event, its organisers have announced that “2017 is going to be a year of very exciting changes to the Afropolitan Vibes brand,” keeping details of these changes unrevealed.
Already the forthcoming concert is notable in featuring an all-round youthful line-up, as the concert has come to be known for putting together the trending and the throwback on many nights. Besides this shared youth, all three artists also have in common the release of new material in the past year. Jaywon’s Oba Orin album was released last April. Born Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, the singer’s recording music career started under the famed Kennis Music label in the late 2000s. He is currently runs his own label, Next World Music.
Ice Prince is signed to Chocolate City and his own Super Cool Cats label. His first album was released in 2011 and his third, Jos to the World, reached fans in October 2016. Raised in Jos, Plateau state in Nigeria, he is associated with the Abaga brothers, MI and Jesse Jagz, both of whom he has knew as children.
Like Ice Prince, Ms Abudei was raised in Jos as well, and was featured alongside the rapper on the Jesse Jagz debut album, Jagz of all Tradez. In 2013, she released Brown, a mixtape. Her debut album, And the Bass was Queen, was released in June 2016.
Tickets, 1500 naira ($5), sold at the Freedom Park gate.
